The base preparation is the most important part of the entire flagstone
installation process. Appropriate base material, thickness, and
compaction are essential to ensure your installation will last a lifetime.
Use either a hand tamper or plate compactor and firmly compact the gravel
base material. For best compaction compact in 4” layers.

Sweeping specially graded Unilock® Jointing Sand (available from your
Unilock® Dealer) into the joints of the flagstone further locks the
flagstone blocks together.

Concrete pavers are suitable for driveways and other heavy traffic
areas, while more delicate stone, such as bluestone or flagstone, is
used for walkways and patios. flagstone can be cut into the brick so
you don't have one long brick runway.
